Inspired by the pierced heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary, artists have tried to capture an image of the account that is part of the Presentation in the Temple.21 At the end of eight days, when he was circumcised, he was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb. 22 When the time came for their purification according to the law of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord 23 as it is written in the law of the Lord, “Every male that opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord,” 24 and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the law of the Lord, “a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.”

The annual celebration of Catholic Schools Week in the United States in 2018 is January 28 through February 3.Statement from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops: We are deeply committed to supporting the proclamation of the Gospel through our primary and secondary Catholic Schools, Catholic higher education, campus ministry, certification for ecclesial ministry, and support of children and parents through advocacy and public policy in our Nation's Capitol.

This beautiful statue, at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Crosse, Wisconsin, shows the Blessed Virgin Mary holding three small babies in the fold of her mantle.O Immaculate Virgin, Mother of the true God and Mother of the Church, who from this place reveal your clemency and your pity to all those who ask for your protection, hear the prayer that we address to you with filial trust, and present it to your Son Jesus, our sole Redeemer. Mother of Mercy, teacher of hidden and silent sacrifice, to you, who come to meet us sinners, we dedicate on this day all our being and all our love. We also dedicate to you our life, our work, our joys, our infirmities, and our sorrows.

Young Samuel the Prophet hears the Lord calling him, and Eli the Priest tells him what to do.1 Now the boy Samuel was ministering to the Lord under Eli. The word of the Lord was rare in those days; visions were not widespread. At that time Eli, whose eyesight had begun to grow dim so that he could not see, was lying down in his room; the lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the temple of the Lord, where the ark of God was. Then the Lord called, “Samuel! Samuel!” and he said, “Here I am!” and ran to Eli, and said, “Here I am, for you called me.”

In Isaiah's Old Testament prophecy, he foretells the coming of the Magi to worship the Newborn King of the Jews.Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you. For darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples; but the Lord will arise upon you, and his glory will appear over you. Nations shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn.

This illustration of the Holy Family is in the children's book, Counting on Faith, from Divine Providence Press. Please join the Holy Family Novena today: 1 Listen to me, your father, O children; act accordingly, that you may be kept in safety. For the Lord honors a father above his children, and he confirms a mother’s right over her children. Those who honor their father atone for sins, and those who respect their mother are like those who lay up treasure. Those who honor their father will have joy in their own children, and when they pray they will be heard.

The prophet Nathan tells King David that the Lord will establish a kingdom that will endure forever, sprung from David's loins. Now when the king was settled in his house, and the Lord had given him rest from all his enemies around him, the king said to the prophet Nathan, “See now, I am living in a house of cedar, but the ark of God stays in a tent.” Nathan said to the king, “Go, do all that you have in mind; for the Lord is with you.”

Saint John the Baptist, the last of the Old Testament prophets, proclaims Jesus Christ to the world as the Lamb of God.19 This is the testimony given by John when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?” 20 He confessed and did not deny it, but confessed, “I am not the Messiah.” 21 And they asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” “Are you the prophet?” He answered, “No.” 22 Then they said to him, “Who are you? Let us have an answer for those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?” 23 He said,

The Immaculate Conception of Mary, honored as the New Ark of the New Covenant, is celebrated every year on December 8 by the Holy Roman Catholic Church.10 “They shall make an ark of acacia wood; two cubits and a half shall be its length, a cubit and a half its breadth, and a cubit and a half its height. 11 And you shall overlay it with pure gold, within and without shall you overlay it, and you shall make upon it a molding of gold round about. 12 And you shall cast four rings of gold for it and put them on its four feet, two rings on the one side of it, and two rings on the other side of it. 13 You shall make poles of acacia wood, and overlay them with gold.

Advent is a penitential period of approximately four weeks in anticipation of the annual celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ and His Second Coming.24 “But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, 25 and the stars will be falling from heaven, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. 26 And then they will see the Son of man coming in clouds with great power and glory. 27 And then he will send out the angels, and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of heaven.
