For the Messenger and for World Mission Sunday, he answered some questions about his fascinating life.

Madonna of the Book is a famous painting by Italian artist Sandro Botticelli, dating back to 1480 A.D.7 I prayed and prudence was given me; I pleaded and the spirit of Wisdom came to me. 8 I preferred her to scepter and throne, and deemed riches nothing in comparison with her, 9 nor did I liken any priceless gem to her; because all gold, in view of her, is a bit of sand, and before her, silver is to be accounted mire. 10 Beyond health and beauty I loved her, and I chose to have her rather than the light, because her radiance never ceases.

In this original book illustration, by Jason Koltuniak from Saved by the Alphabet, God takes a rib from Adam and creates Eve.18 The Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper as his partner.” 19 So out of the ground, the Lord God formed every animal of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name.

In this original book illustration, by Jason Koltuniak from Saved by the Alphabet, the Virgin Mary is the spiritual mother of all who believe in Jesus Christ.31 Jesus went on to say, “To what, then, can I compare the people of this generation? What are they like? 32 They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling out to each other:

In this famous painting by Vogelstein, Jesus welcomes the little children who experience the love of God.33 Then they came to Capernaum; and when he was in the house, he asked them, “What were you arguing about on the way?” 34 But they were silent, for on the way they had argued with one another about who was the greatest.

This infographic from Catholic Link explains the symbols used for the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The feast of Our Lady of Sorrows, Saturday, September 15, commemorates the seven great sorrows which Mary lived in relation to Her Son, as they are recorded in the Gospels or through Sacred Tradition. We are invited to reflect on Mary's deep suffering:

The Holy Roman Catholic Church celebrates the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary on the traditional date of September 8.The Catholic Church celebrates the birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary on its traditional fixed date of September 8, nine months after the December 8 celebration of her Immaculate Conception as the child of Saints Joachim & Anne.

Very Rev. Philip Sosa, M.S.F. (middle) celebrated his 50th anniversary of ordination as a Priest of Jesus Christ at Saint Wenceslaus Church in Saint Louis, Missouri in August 2018.We need them in life's early morning, we need them again at its close; we feel their warm clasp of true friendship, we seek them when tasting life's woes. When we come to this world we are sinful, the greatest as well as the least. The hand that makes us pure as angels is the beautiful hand of a priest.

This is a vintage illustration of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.Monday, August 27, is the feast day of Saint Monica, the mother of Saint Augustine. She is the patron saint of mothers, married women, abuse victims, and alcoholics. Like the persistent widow in Luke 18:1-8, Saint Monica's constant prayer led her son into the Church, and he eventually became a great Doctor of the Church.Saint Monica, pray for us, especially for all who have left the Church or refuse to enter into the fullness of truth! Appropriately, the entire month of August is dedicated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

This image honors the Blessed Virgin Mary as the Queen of Heaven from the Book of Revelation, Chapter 12.Venerable Pope Pius XII established this feast in 1954. But Mary’s queenship has roots in Scripture. At the Annunciation, Gabriel announced that Mary’s Son would receive the throne of David and rule forever (Luke 1:26-38). At the Visitation, Elizabeth calls Mary “mother of my Lord” (Luke 1:39-56). As in all the mysteries of Mary’s life, she is closely associated with Jesus: Her queenship is a share in Jesus’ kingship.
